Fenty Beauty: Top Up and Treats

At this point, my love of Fenty Beauty knows no bounds. I think it is amazing what the brand has achieved in such little time. The brand only launched back in September last year and already it is a global powerhouse set to over take Kylie Cosmetics in revenue. All because Fenty Beauty finally recognised the need to be inclusive in terms of shade range. I bet other brands are kicking themselves wishing they had paid attention to the consumer earlier. Not only has Fenty Beauty made a lot of money but they have also opened the eyes of many customers who may not have understood the shade match struggle.

Just look at the out cry at Tarte due to their shade range for their new foundations. If you even talk about the foundation in a positive way (Fleur De Force or Lousie Pentland) then you get ripped apart. Yes, rightfully so, I mean why did Tarte launch a foundation which could essentially only be worn by white people? I know they claimed that they wanted to get the foundation out there and they were still working on the other shades but why would you do a partial launch? Why launch a product if everyone can't wear it? Rihanna said she had been working on Fenty Beauty for 2 years before it launched and I can believe it due to the tiny details of each product which have clearly been thought out. Even if it didn't take 2 years, she still launched all of her foundations at the same time so everyone could use it. Fenty Beauty has shown that it can be done whilst forcing other brands to do better and to follow in her footsteps.

I must admit I was very hesitant when Fenty Beauty was first launched, I had no idea what to expect or if it was going to be for me. I watched so many reviews on Youtube, created by people I trust the opinion of so when it got the thumbs up from them, I was sold. I started off by testing the foundation in the shade 140 and one of the Killawatt Highlighters in Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal. I have completely used Lightning Dust in the highlight palette as I completely loved it and Fire Crystal isn't too far behind. Last week I actually finished the foundation. I had been using it everyday since I bought it, that means it only lasts around 4 months. I do have to say I was quite disappointed that it didn't last longer but when it ran out, I did go straight out to buy a new bottle. It has taken me a very long time to find another foundation which I love as much as the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation which I have been wearing for a good number of years. I now keep Double Wear for special occasions or exclusively as my post acid foundation as it contains SPF whereas the Fenty Beauty foundation doesn't.

I have always liked a more matte foundation and the Fenty Beauty foundation fits that criteria. The full name of the foundation is the Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. This definitely gives a soft matte finish and creates a velvet look to the skin. When I first apply the foundation, I actually don't really like it and I prefer when it has worn in a little bit. I find the foundation long wearing and I just love how airbrushed this foundation makes you look. It has a good coverage and probably starts somewhere near a medium coverage but it is easily buildable. I take 3 pumps, which is probably why it runs out so quickly, but that way I get a full coverage which is what I like. If you like quite a natural look you might get on with this foundation, just use less of it. The only people who might struggle to use this foundation is anyone with dry skin. If you have dry skin you might need to use a hydrating primer underneath, just to make sure it doesn't cling to any dry patches. Personally I get quite oily in my T-Zone but with the Fenty Beauty foundation, I find it actually looks better if I don't powder. This foundation does oxidise but it will oxidise differently on different skin so that is kind of irrelevant but I really like the colour after it has oxidised. When I first apply it, it does look a bit light.

At £26 I really do not think it is overly expensive for the quality of the foundation you are getting. Obviously I am not overly thrilled that I have already had to buy a new bottle but it is well worth it. As I was already in Harvey Nichols at the Fenty counter I decided I might as well treat myself to another Mattemoiselle Plush Lipstick in a different shade as I have been loving the one I already have. Last month I wrote my review on the on the Mattemoiselle Lipstick in Ma'Damn which I have been wearing quite a lot but I did say I wanted a more wearable shade. When I was shopping last month someone already had the tester for Spanked so I didn't see it but this time I swatched it and turns out I really like it, so I bought it. Of course I didn't really need it but as it is February and my birthday month, I used that as my excuse to buy it.

The shade Spanked is a Dusty Rose which is the sort of shade I love for this time of year. The other more nude shades from Fenty Beauty are all a little bit too warm for me which is why I didn't buy one but this one has a deeper tone and is slightly more neutral. This was the most wearable nude in my eyes so I am happy to have seen it whilst I was in store. I didn't test it whilst I was there as I was too busy chatting to one of my friends who works on the counter but I had the lipstick open as soon as I got home.

Like Ma'Damn this has the same incredible matte formula, really I would describe this as a comfort matte formula. Obviously it gives that bold pigmentation and I mean BOLD! There is absolutely no patchiness. That is one thing I can't fault about any of the products I have tried from Fenty, they are all very pigmented with an even distribution. For a formula which is so pigmented, it doesn't feel dry at all and it feels soft on the lips. I have been wearing Ma' Damn to work and I can wear it all day without my lips becoming super dry and looking flaky which doesn't happen with many matte lipsticks. It is super long lasting, because it is a matte, it even wears well through food and drink. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this lipstick and if you like a matte lipstick I would highly recommend checking out the Mattemoiselle range.

I am so glad that I managed to get one of the Mattemoiselle lipsticks in a shade that I will wear more regularly than Ma' Damn. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, it only has a small amount of product in it so like every other Fenty Beauty product I can see myself getting through this quite quickly. At £16 this is one of the cheaper luxury lipsticks on the market and in my opinion the quality is well worth the price. On another note, I am pleased to have the foundation back in my life as it is seriously good and has quickly become a staple in my makeup collection. I will be keeping an eye on Fenty Beauty this year as I can't wait to see what they launch next. If you are looking for a little bit of encouragement to try your first Fenty Beauty product and have somehow found your way to my blog, I recommend going online and checking out the brand as it is seriously good for such a newcomer to the beauty industry.
