Newbies - living for the highlight all night

Take Me by Miso
My very kind friend gifted me a gift card for John Lewis (thanks so much!). I thought about various things to spend such kindness on and ultimately decided to pick up some products that I have always been intrigued to get. This is a little introduction to the newbies I'll be testing and playing around with.
Becca Glow on the Go Set
I've wanted to try Becca's highlighters for the longest time (ever since Lisa Eldridge recommend them in her videos) but, they're pretty pricey and truthfully contain much more product than I could ever get through in the 6 months shelf time frame (its a guide but still). So yeah, I held out and ultimately over the years, my chastity paid off. Beccas highlighting shade range grew, powder highlighters were added to the collection and most excitingly of all Becca made minis which means now we can all try out their bestselling formula/shade without the hefty commitment. Yet, there are some downsides as not all the shades have been made into miniature form and there is only one (that I know of in the UK) mini liquid and powder highlighter set which is in the shade Opal.

Now I don't know about you but, the names of Becca highlighters give me heavy Steven Universe vibes due to the gemstone names but, I guess that's what watching the show gets me.

Disclaimer - I've not had this product long so its early days but to keep my blog somewhat fresh (fans moths), semi-relevant (speaks on a stage in an empty room) and my pre-posts down (90 and counting) I'm showcasing it early before I forgot or *gulps* it becomes discontinued.

Back to the review ...
Being a black woman of darker skin I was concerned that opal might be "too light" or perhaps even worse, not show up on me despite Becca claiming its universality. Yet, I need not have worried as Opal is such a pretty highlight!

I actually have a fair amount of highlighters (a post idea on the way) so admittedly I was a tad blase about what if anything a Becca highlighter would differ to all my others. To put it simply you could say despite the massive hype surrounding Becca products I was underprepared to the realities of its beauty. Plus, Becca's "glow on the go" has really pretty packaging in terms of the box and the items themselves.

Liquid: I love that this tube has a little wand so I can easily place the product where I want it and gently blend it into my skin. The gleam is subtle but, so sublime. This definitely creates glowy dewy skin that I wish was natural! It's not greasy looking or overly shimmery to make it look like I've made effort "highlighting". Even on bare skin without foundation this product just gives a gorgeous healthy and dare I say it sexy look to the skin. Becca recommends using their highlighters on"cheekbones, brow bones and bridge of the nose". If you are into a natural soft gleam to the skin you'll love and or prefer the liquid highlighter.

Powder: More pigmented than the liquid highlighter. At first, I thought I would dislike the strong pigmentation as I'm not a strong highlighter fan but at first swipe I really loved it. It very easily shows up on my skin and gives a really strong but, still high shine dewy look to the peaks of the face. In artificial lighting, the superfine glitters do show up but it's still gorgeous. Unfortunately, I nicked the product with my nails so sorry for the dent in this beautiful powder (whimpers). If you're thinking to skip Becca highlighters because you feel its too daunting - don't - they're trending and trendy for a reason because they're so pretty on the skin.

Rubbing both highlighters into my skin
Noob Thoughts: Super pretty. I wasn't expecting much but, I should have known better. John Lewis retails the set at a cheeky £22.00 which is pricier than the $20/£20 Becca and other UK retailers charge. Currently, I've incorporated the liquid highlighter into my daily routine.

I know it's not really important but this box feels so smooth and velvety ...
Urban Decay All Nighter long-lasting setting spray
It's really early days so I can't say well how it works. I don't really use "setting sprays" so I can't compare it to other setting products but, I do use face mists to get rid of a matte/ashy face if I feel I've used too much powder or that my base is a little off. I'm not in the habit of wanting my makeup to last 16hrs straight but, this seemed like a fun little product to try that could work for future functions - if it works
I read a few reviews on the product and they all seemed to be pretty impressive (5 Star ratings). The formula for this product has been formulated by Skindinavia which gossmakeupartist has touted to be the best setting spray so, I'm looking forward to great things. I did test it out a few days ago and my skin didn't seem to shine as much as it usually does. There's no strong offputting alcoholic smell (the second ingredient is Alcohol Denat), its a very lightweight mist, it doesn't make my skin itch or feel heavy and I think it really enhances the look of my foundation.
The packaging is secure (two caps), its lightweight and is a good size to fit into most makeup bags.

Noob thoughts: I'm enjoying it.

Terre D' Hermes
First impression: I don't know why I received a masculine perfume sample in my order (?). Perhaps it's an inside joke the universe or more specifically JL sought to play on me. I mean I'm all for unisex fragrances but, in the classical sense, this fragrance on the first spritz is by no stretch of the imagination feminine. If you like woody earthy smoky scents with a hint of metallic sweetness you'll like this.

Notes/words I get from it before researching - woody, incense, citrus (bergamot?), tobacco, smokey, oud, earthy, mud/dirty, musk.

Scent category - This is the type of scent a "man" would appreciate or should I say a more masculine energy would be drawn to. If I could ascribe this scent to a character it would be a cowboy who is more John Wayne than Clint Eastwood. Yet after some light researching, this scent might be more akin to Clint because the heart notes of Terre d'Hermes is comprised of "flint and gunpowder" and its no secret what he thinks about gun laws ...

Thoughts after testing: There's a sparkling sweetness to it that gives a sherbet fizzy quality in the top notes and the more I test it out, the more it reminds me of a Molton Brown shower gel (the dark brown one I think its pepper) which has a spa-like unisex (but more manly) vibe to it. Thus, I would backtrack on my words and say after the initial shock of its manliness once it dries down on the skin, it smells much more unisex. When it comes to longevity this scent has superb lasting power and even lasts the night (yes sometimes I do late night spritzing). In the morning its a light scent that's still pretty virile but, not so umm rough.

To conclude: I'm surprised I like it and would wear it for myself.
